Blueshade joins in the numerous events on arts and music as 2011 closes
The Blueshade Art and Music Festival promises to be a day of artistic delights. The event which will take place this Saturday, November 19 at Hope Gardens, St Andrew, will feature some of the island’s most prestigious artists, musicians, designers and craft vendors.
In addition, the myriad activities will entail a Children’s Village; a ‘Book Soup’ area featuring veranda readings of traditional folk tales and poems; a food yard with a number of delectable items including breadfruit and roast corn, Boston-style jerk, crayfish soup and other delicious goodies; and the centre stage which will showcase live band music.
Among the bands slated to perform throughout the day are Black Zebra, Stone Dub Band and Bluegrass in the Sky, while headlining the night’s proceedings will be the energetic Ken Boothe.
A celebration
Producer of the event, Antoinette Campbell of Firefly Productions says, “It will be a day when persons can come out and enjoy the fabulous work of the artists, musicians and creative persons from across the island. It is definitely a celebration of art and the creative spirit.”
“…There will be a lot of booths and exhibitions to view throughout the course of the day, so persons won’t have to worry about having too little to enjoy. There will be something for everyone. Also, in addition to our Children’s Village, Book Soup, and great food items, persons will be able to participate in the great musical adventure we have planned,” said Campbell.
That ‘musical adventure’ will come in the form of the Musical Heritage Treasure Series – Jamaica’s musical journey from ska/rock steady through to modern dancehall. Campbell says this was important “because not only is it an enjoyable way to spend a part of your Saturday morning or afternoon, but it also gives patrons a chance to reminisce of past favourites, get reacquainted and possibly buy the vinyl records which will also be available for sale. We are encouraging everyone to come out and be a part of the day’s activities. It will be nothing short of delightful for the entire family.”
