Honourable Damion Crawford, State Minister of Tourism and Entertainment officially declared the Buma Rotterdam Beats Festival open in Holland today (Friday, November 16, 2012).
Minister Crawford who was invited to speak at the festival’s conference by the event’s organizers, says, this marks the first time a Jamaican minister has opened the international festival.
In pointing out the impact of reggae music on Holland, the Minister says, “I emphasized how proud I was of the influence we have had and will continue to have on the culture in Holland. I also spoke about the importance of information to progress, and that conferences help to share this information and create synergies that will lead to the perpetuation of progress in music.”
The festival which aims to discover and promote upcoming local and national talent in Holland takes place on December 16-17 and according to the event’s website, features “two-days of music conferences, workshops and open-mic sessions, the annual State Awards, plus a night time music festival across five of the city’s most exciting venues.”
Among other well-known reggae icons present at the conference and festival are, Shaggy and Cleveland ‘Clevie’ Browne.
