Jamaican dollar slides out of business

DEAR EDITOR:

The private sector is quite concerned about the sliding dollar and the impact that it will have on the country. Naturally, they are concerned about the effect that it will have on their bottom line also, but citizens need to take action as well because this is not good for the country.
With a sliding dollar, it clearly seems that we are not a good country with which to do business. It will take more money to pay for oil and we all know the concomitant results. When we look at some business places, for example the Winchester Business Centre, there are quite a number of empty shops for rent, but people have no money to pay as the rent is expensive.

Just recently a jewellery store in the Mall Plaza on Constant Spring Road closed its doors. Signs of closure are elsewhere and workers are losing their jobs. We need to take seriously the words from the Jamaica 50 celebrations, “On a mission”, and see what we can do about the dollar.

Big up,
