An Active and Interactive Teaching and Learning Best Practices Showcase will be held for local teachers and professors. Its a joint collaboration of the Jamaica Fulbright-Humphrey Alumni Association (JFHAA) and the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy with support from the Instructional Development Unit (IDU), University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona.
Interactive teaching seminar by US
It is A U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Alumni Project, slated for Wednesday, March 31, 2010 between 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Knutsford Court Hotel.
The JFHAA, with support from the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, will be hosting a Best Practices Showcase in Active and Interactive Teaching Strategies on Wednesday, March 31, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Knutsford Court Hotel. Registration will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. and there will be Concurrent Workshops in Active Teaching and Learning in Mathematics, Science, Use of the Arts in Literacy Studies, Humanities and the Social Sciences, and Behaviour Management Strategies in an Active Teaching and Learning Classroom.
The JFHAA will publish and showcase a booklet with best practices in active and interactive teaching and learning. A DVD will also be produced showing examples of teachers demonstrating their active and interactive teaching methods in their classrooms.
This project will facilitate the learning of innovative active and interactive teaching strategies by teacher educators, teachers, trainers, student teachers and other leaders in the education sector, and is aimed at assisting the process of educational transformation, advancing the pedagogical skills of several teachers. Active and interactive teaching strategies are important in teaching and learning as they have been shown to advance the process of knowledge creation in learners and produce better learner outcomes.
Information about the JFHAA
The JFHAA is an association of Jamaican professionals who have been beneficiaries of Fulbright and Humphrey scholarships, fellowships, or grants provided by the U.S. Department of State through the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Kingston. More than forty years ago, the first Jamaican Fulbrighter went to the United States to embark on postgraduate studies, and since then approximately 400 Jamaicans have been beneficiaries of Fulbright awards. The mission of the JFHAA is to contribute to national development by initiating and participating in activities that foster advancement in education and the development of a civil society, while promoting mutual understanding through liaison with organizations of a similar nature.
