This is my island in the sun
Where my people have toiled
since time began
I have sailed on many seas, but her shores will always be home to me.
I returned home to my island in the sun
To see if I could find my own place in the sun
And found a rock wall on a hillside blooming bright with bougainvilleas
Golden shower pouis trees that signal the exam season
Miss the third blossoming and we all know its too late to study.
I found a fisherman selling fresh catch on the roadside, spear gun in hand,
Caught, scaled and cooked it you desire right there on the roadside
My place in the sun has crystal clear waters, deep blue and turquoise, colors that reflect the blinding tropical sun which turns brown skin bronze
Deep blue holes with mineral waters,
High jagged mountains dotted with magnificent waterfalls splashing icy cold waters
And endless miles of white sand.
On my island in the sun I found fresh fruit, I mean fresh untampered fruit growing on real trees.
Spotted oranges, bought by the bag and freshly squeezed daily
Huge soursops and bumpy bumpy sweet sops
Huge East Indian mangoes, sweet til them scratch
Boil corn and roast corn, be sure to ask for the soft corn or else
