MEET Howard McGowan, joining the team of write lovers on November 26, 2016.

Howard McGowan has been a practicing journalist for over forty years.
He began his career at the Gleaner company in 1974 as a sub editor/writer on the Features Desk.
He was appointed Editor of overseas publications in 1976 with responsibilities for the North American and UK weekly Gleaner publications.
In 1981 he began covering the fledgeling Reggae Sunsplash, thus becoming the first Gleaner journalist to officially cover that festival.

In 1986 Mr. McGowan was appointed chief sub editor of the Gleaner, a post he held until 1990 when he was named the first Entertainment Editor in the Gleaner’s history.

In this role, Mr. McGowan produced seven columns weekly for both the Gleaner and its sister publication the Star.
This, along with editing all entertainment articles which appeared in both publications as well as covering stage shows, concerts and plays and providing breaking news.
Other highlights in Mr. McGowan’s outstanding career includes, the only print journalist in the Caribbean to cover BoB Marley’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I’m 1995.
Covering the screening of the Jamaican film Klash at the Sundance film Festival in Utah in 1996.
Being a co host of Jamaica’s first radio entertainment talk show on Power 106 1992-1996.
Voted Jamaica’s top entertainment journalist from 1984 to 1997 when he resigned from the Gleaner.
