I am sure you never ever dreamed you’ll be referred to as a criminal. Here is one scenario you can be and will be called out as a criminal.
TWO – MONEY LAUNDERING
Ever stop to realise that breaking up monies to send someone just for ease can make you a criminal. Yes, It’s called “structuring” or smurfing. There goes a new words for my vocabulary.
Oftentimes Jamaicans get to thinking. Okay now I am going to let you get the money without having to produce two IDs.
There is only thinking to let the person have the money in the quickest possible time. Even persons in the Western Union makes this suggestion and we blindly follow to avoid hassle. In some cases, Jamaicans just want to avoid exposing to many of their identification like passport and visa information etc.
The law doesn’t recognise or considers that you making life hassle-free for your loved ones .. but rather it translates the action as an attempt to evading reporting lumpsums of cash… or even money laundering O boy!!! To think a good deed can be seen as EVIL!
HELP YOURSELF:-
Think!
There is a very good reason why the rule is made for two ids.
Collect your monies on different days so no alarm goes off. Truth be told ensure you are well documented, even and especially if you are not collecting the monies for you and you alone.
Think about this
Watch The US$10,000 dollar rule You can be considered for Suspicious alert Activity
Protect yourself
1. Be aware of the laws such as Bank Secrecy Law
2. Do not break up your money
3. Be aware of “Alert on cross border transfers”
4. Use your bank as much as possible
