The artists listed below are some who have been fundamental in the development of the fine arts, as compiled by the National Gallery as at 2010, as well as others added. It is interesting to note that there are others who have also been critical to the development of Jamaica’s fine arts, history, culture and heritage. A list of this is still being compiled for this site, especially with more details on their accomplishments as Jamaican artists internationally.
Note also those who alhough not visual artists have been fundamental and impacting such as Honourable Professor Rex Nettleford, Wayne Chen, Veerle Poupeye and their role will be discussed in another article.
Research is also being done to bring to light the genres of artists to modern day, and more details on them in light of their contribution.
Viewers can see more on them at the National Library and National Gallery or through this site. The dates show the active period of their work, unless otherwise stated.
