DEAR EDITOR,

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has always said she loves the poor, and to confirm this, her Government is ensuring that we all become poor so that she can love us all.

Mrs Simpson Miller told the nation a barefaced lie when she said on television and in the press that when the People’s National Party (PNP) won the general election, she would remove the tax on electricity bills. This got many people to vote for her and assisted the PNP in winning the election. She lied.

The fact is that now that she has won the election, the tax is still there.

With respect to the poor, they are responsible for their current state of affairs. How can a woman and man who are not working continue to breed like rabbits, yet they have no income to support themselves and their children? This puts a burden on the rest of us as we now have to pay more taxes to provide free medical service, more schools, more police and soldiers, more for electricity and water, which they steal. Also, more houses have to be provided, and many of these new homeowners do not pay rent or mortgage.

The circumstances of the poor will not improve if we continue to supply them with all their needs without them having to work themselves. They will continue to believe that we owe them a living. The Government must, therefore, cut the benefits to the poor and let them realise that the rest of us do not owe them a living, and they must get up off their bottoms and help themselves if they want to improve their situation.
