On Saturday, September 25, 2010, Third World Band will perform at the Homerun Music Festival at Digital Domain Park – home of the Mets spring training since 1988 – in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Homerun Music Festival, presented by Sunset Magic Inc, a 501(3)(c) organization, is the first International Music Festival to be held at Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie. The festival was developed to celebrate the Caribbean and Latin Heritage on Florida’s Treasure Coast. In partnership with the San Juan Festival and The Puerto Rican Association for Hispanic Affairs, the festival will feature artists such as Third World Band, Machel Montano, El Gran Combo, Yannick Koffi, Kingdom Souljazz, Sito Rock, 506 Crew, among others.
In addition to live performances, there will be food and arts and crafts representative of the Caribbean. Proceeds from the festival will go toward Roundtable of St. Lucie County, an organization that is comprised of several non-profit organizations and business groups whose focus is geared toward empowering and educating children in the community.
Third World Band not only considers themselves ambassadors of reggae music but also ambassadors for charity. Cat Coore remarks, “Whenever we are given the opportunity to be apart of something that is bigger than ourselves, we are happy to lend our time and support. As musicians, it is our responsibility to give back to the community in whatever way we can. It is vital – this is something that is bigger than us. And to be performing at such an amazing venue, well that is a totally different ball game.”
The performance in Port St. Lucie comes after the band’s media promotions of their current album Patriots, which was released on August 10, 2010. Shortly after releasing the album, the group busied themselves promoting the album in Jamaica. The group conducted radio, television and print interviews with some to Jamaica’s premiere media outlets. Further promotions will continue throughout the US, Canada and Europe in the coming weeks. On Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 8pm to 12am, Third World Band will share co-hosting responsibilities with DJ Mark Swaby and Gary Harris on www.irietimes.com. The live broadcast will showcase tracks from the album and there will be a live feed of the band’s rehearsal.
The album, which is available for purchase on www.thirdworlddigistore.com, has already been receiving airplay locally and abroad. Patriots celebrates some of Jamaica’s legendary artists who are featured on the thirteen song album. They include Marcia Griffiths, Tarrus Riley, Junior Reid, Stephen and Damian Marley, Gregory Isaacs, Capleton, Dean Frazier, Mykal Rose, Tessanne Chin and Toots.
