There will certainly be no shortage of fearsome mini-battles and rivalries during World Clash R.E.S.E.T. in New York on Saturday, April 7, 2012. And when top tier U.S. sounds Earth Ruler (Brooklyn, New York) and Poison Dart (Tampa, Florida) meet up, a fiery civil war of North and South will be ignited. Manifesting before thousands of sound clash fans will be a blazing turf war of two well-equipped, high powered and similarly respected U.S. sounds. Other big league sounds pegged for World Clash R.E.S.E.T. in New York include: Fire Links, Tony Matterhorn, Bass Odyssey, Black Kat and David Rodigan.
Holding down Brooklyn, New York for more than two decades, Earth Ruler is a leader in the sport of clash. From strong, historical clash showings during the Biltmore era to victories and respectable performances in the modern day clash arena, Earth Ruler remains an active force to be reckoned with. Through time, this Brooklyn war machine has competed with the best of the best in arena, including both top Jamaican and U.S. sounds. Now, Earth Ruler is ready to take their potent clash skills and deep dub box to the World Clash stage for the very first time. Ever since Earth Ruler’s entry into R.E.S.E.T., there has been an outpour of elated emotions from their loyal fan base and New York clash fans overall. While there have always been requests for Earth Ruler at World Clash, it wasn’t until this year that they made the lineup.
When catching up with Lee Major of Earth Ruler, the enthusiastic selector expressed his sincere gratitude for earning a spot at World Clash R.E.S.E.T. and commented, “The Earth Ruler team is so humbled for this musical opportunity that we have worked for since the day Earth Ruler was built. We are prepared and ready to expose our musical talents and dynamic craft for cutting tunes!”
But soon — a war infused demeanor encompassed Earth Ruler’s lead selector as he warned Poison Dart, “It’s all about shut up! Don’t use social media to define your sound…we are a warrior sound and Amazura is the battlefield. Earth Ruler we name, ‘one ah way’ and different from the rest!”
Lee Major is one of Brooklyn’s most visible sound figures. His comedic approach to speeches almost always evokes roars of laughter from the audience. An expert in his field, Lee Major proclaims that Tony Matterhorn learned everything from him during his early years on King Addies, i.e., talk, style, swag, etc. Although Tony Matterhorn is the more prominent of the two selectors, some Brooklyn people have agreed with Lee Major. Coming to a verbal battle with Lee Major during a recent Sound Chat radio show, Matterhorn vehemently denied these claims.
With just as much fire as Earth Ruler, Poison Dart is one of the arena’s most visible and diverse U.S. sound systems. Launched in 1994, the tightly knit Poison Dart consists of talented DJs and selectors with owner Kirky C at the helm. Over 40 years of combined experience cements Poison Dart as a super team that thrives in clash, juggling, production, engineering, remixing, MCing, promoting and more! Although Poison Dart has their hands in every avenue of Dancehall entertainment, they possess a love of clashing like none other. They have traveled the world, amassing a huge international following, while holding down their position as hometown legends.
Emblazoned with the tell-tale motto of “Run With Us or Run from Us,” Poison Dart has proven to be a rock solid sound for nearly two decades. Confirming his anticipation to contend in Irish and Chin’s 15th Anniversary staging of World Clash, Kirky C of Poison Dart said, “I am excited to be a part of World Clash R.E.S.E.T., it’s only befitting that Poison Dart – one of the top sounds in the world – compete on the ‘world’ stage for clashing. Confidently, Kirky C added, “Clash fans should gear up to hear the famed ‘Poison Dart’ sound that people from all walks of like hail us for…..infectious music and uniquely cut dubs that pierce. We are ready to unleash our sound on the world at R.E.S.E.T.!”
“As far as Earth Ruler, I think they are a great sound and I have nothing but respect for the team…..however they must get ready because we are armed and dangerous and ‘it nah go pretty’ on April 7,” declared Kirky C.
Poison Dart’s highly anticipated stint at R.E.S.E.T. will officially mark their second time on the sound clash industry’s most reveled sound competition. How could one forget their World Clash debut in 2003? It was a coveted spot they earned after punishing contenders in Irish and Chin’s U.S. Rumble earlier that year. Because of this victory, Poison Dart trotted the globe and as fate had it Tampa’s war gurus were thrust into the big leagues of clash. By no means is Poison Dart a stranger to the World Clash series, as the sound also had memorable performances in Antigua, Jamaica and Canada.
As Earth Ruler and Poison Dart come head-to-head at World Clash R.E.S.E.T., one of the biggest questions at hand is: Who will win this civil clash war of North and South? While both sounds have rich histories, loyal fan bases and deep boxes, only time will tell whether one gets “poisoned” or the other over”thrown.” Don’t miss this unprecedented face-off at World Clash R.E.S.E.T. on Saturday, April 7, 2012.
