Out of Many, One People: The Germans

Just after Emancipation, the Germans came as labourers. Many of them settled in Seaford Town which is called “German Town”, in Westmoreland, even today. There they started farms on 500 acres of land donated by Lord Seaford, in 1835.
Many traditional German cottages exist in Seaford Town and some 160 residents claim direct German lineage – some with distinct features of German geneaology.
There are places across Jamaica bearing names of German influence such as Manhertz Gap, Charlotten-burgh, Mount Holstein, Bremen Valley, New Brunswick, Hessen Castle.
