Jamaica’s ‘supergirl’ Denyque off to Kenya after EME win

Jamaica’s ‘supergirl’ Denyque collected the first award of her career last week Saturday, when she walked away with the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Award for Best New Artiste (Female). The EME’s were given based on work done in 2010.

“I feel amazing. Like I’m definitely supergirl! I’m really grateful for this honour and, just wow”, said Denyque after she collected her award. She said that 2010 was a special year for her, and that the work would continue in 2011.

“Last year, when I went to the EME’s I was just a guest. Just to be nominated was a great feeling, and then for me to also win the award just has me speechless.”

With that win under her belt, Denyque heads to the African continent to host the Insyder SKIZA CHAT Awards. Set for April 16 in Kenya, she is also a nominee in these awards and this will be fast-rising artiste’s African debut.

“I’m not even thinking about winning. I’m just excited about the opportunity I’ve been blessed with, to visit and perform in Kenya and possibly other countries in Africa. I know my music has been getting crazy airplay and getting more and more popular on that side of the world, and I’m looking forward to meeting some of my fans there!” the elated singer exclaimed.

Her singles Summer Love, Supergirl, and Juggling Hearts have charted in several countries in Africa, and she fields requests for dubs and specials from DJs from the region daily.

When she returns, Denyque plans to hit the studio to finish working on some singles, before heading to New York for more studio time with overseas producers and performance engagements in the United States.
