On Saturday, August 4,2012, Jamaicans are invited to war t-shirts and Jamaican flags and come wearing friends as they celebrate Jamaica’s 50th anniversary with Oliver Samuels will headline a grand event in New York City.
“There is no better way for Jamaicans and friends of Jamaicans in New York to celebrate Jamaica’s 50th year of independence than to reconnect with the greatness and world-renowned culture of our island with Oliver Samuels and friends on August 4.
On Saturday, August 4,2012, Oliver Samuels will headline a grand event in New York City to celebrate Jamaica’s 50th Independence with Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica.
The event will showcase an array of performers and motivational speakers joining him from Jamaica and around the world to help us celebrate. Be prepared to hear great renditions of the National Anthem, National songs and other heritage songs.
With successful performances at The Consulate General of Jamaica in New York, City Hall, Bronx Borough Hall, The World famous Braata Folk Singers will be showcasing Jamaican folk music and songs. The group utilizes music, dance and drama to deliver a combination of high-energy performances, folk ballads and traditional Jamaican folk songs. If you loved the performance of Ms. Lou then you will be in for a special treat from Braata Folk Singers.
This will be a family day with activities from 10am to 7pm. We encourage you to bring out your children to an event that is positive and for a good cause. Expect great foods, music, entertainment, Craft vendors showcasing Jamaican merchandise, guest speakers and speeches, all re-connecting us with Jamaican culture and history. Special activities for children will include, kite building, drum lessons, face painting, box truck building and many more children friendly activities.
To showcase this special day of pride we ask that you wear any clothing which highlights your love for Jamaica. This is the day to wear your Jamaican tshirts, walk with your flags and be prepared to enjoy a fun filled day with friends.
