Swimming in Jamaica


So you arrive on an island – Jamaica – and think immediately to go lay by the beach, or jump in the river. Some play it safe and head off to the pool.
Can you swim, can you save your life, or another should difficulties arise? Adventerous or not, can you swim? Swimming is a favourite pastime for many persons in Jamaica, and now even synchronising swimming is becoming popular. still, can YOU SWIM?

HEALTHWISE… any doctor quickly recommends swimming as the best exercise method overall. Simply because its so easy to relax while swimming, and you DO EXERCISE all your muscles in your body all at once. Think.. getting healthy while having sheer fun.

While in Jamaica, where rightfully, living on an island every resident should know how to swim – you can learn at least the basics.
Blowing bubbles, floating, pushing, gliding, freestyle at the very least.
Classes are available at a number of spots. You can swim for a minimal fee, at the YMCA, under the supervision of a lifeguard on duty. However think how much fun it will be if you learn to swim. Do you have fears.. you can overcome them. After all any and everyone on any island, big or small, should develop a culture for ‘living in the water’.
As Jamaicans say “Fun cya’an dun!”
