Do-it-yourself: Avoid being criminalised in Jamaica part two (2)

I am sure you never ever dreamed you’ll be referred to as a criminal. Here is one scenario you can be and will be called out as a criminal.

TWO – TRAFFIC LAW OFFENDER:-
Accepting a traffic ticket by paying the fine criminalises you – as in makes you out to be a confirmed offender of the law – traffic law! Sure, you dont have time to go to court to prove your case, and most times like me you accept the notion that oftentimes there is no hope with how police seems to easily get away with anything. On the other hand, some persons believe it just not worth it to waste days off going to court to argue over a ticket for $10,000.00 for example.

Accepting and paying for a ticket criminalises you however.
Yes, you will have a record of criminal behaviour popping up when it matters most! Think about it! The police even tells you you will get points off your license when you pay the fine and then they’ll disappear after a few months – 15 months. However you will be going down as an offender on record.

SO HELP YOURSELF:-

You can help yourself with the law, by getting a dashcam. Traffic Court judges strongly advise getting a dashcam.
That way you have evidence to rely on to prove your innocence. Of course there are other ways you can prove yourself.

Secondly, read the laws that apply to your driving. The Road Traffic Act, The Transport Authority Act are good starts.

JUST THINK:
Under the Trump administration, Jamaicans who committed even minor traffic offenses , even 40 years ago are now eligible for deportation. Go figure!
