Persons in authority, especially Judges, are hardly ever criticised. There is often a fear that litigants will experience bias and harsh measures such as targeting. However in democratic society justice must be seen to be done, and where government officials so elected must be seen to operate in the interest of the public. So what would life eventually become without our power to exercise our rights. Over time in Jamaica, rules and laws have become either outdated or so overly harsh that life can feel a heavy burden. Conclusion can be drawn that this negatively affects how members of society treats each other al all levels.
Here’s a list of suggestions towards improving our nation (the law) to making it perfect.
(Numbers 71-80)
71. Several archaic laws need to be amended or repealed in the interest of Jamaica ns who feel flogged, arrested, shackled, and beaten by the law
72. Reduce the opportunities for Judges to become monsters of the courtroom especially in parish court. Too many of them are self imposing self made laws. No judge should force someone to sign their rights away by usurping their power
73. Parish Judges need to be regularised in how they make inhouse rules to address issues which are not brought as matters in court for an official decision. for example decisions to bar litigants from paying costs to bring the claim outside of attroney fees is not justified by codified law nor common law and defies common practices.
74. Street traffic cops are becoming a burden to Jamaicans by simply being aggressive in how tickets are issued and the public dealt with. In USA and other counterparts the first time seeing a back light a police gives you a warning for example, They understand you cant just see your back light going while driving.
75. There needs to be night school for drivers who commit traffic offences. When licenses get really revoked and offenders have to go back to school, then things will be different.
76. There needs to be better monitoring of law enforcers.
77. Up to now a proper system is not in place to guide parents on how to discipline their children, while ‘corporal punishment’ that worked is now illegal
78. A law should be put in place to ensure Jamaicans leaving for education abroad is bonded for at least 3 years to serve their own country- Jamaica
79. Every Jamaican living abroad that still shares citizenry of Jamaica should pay tax
80. Priority NEEDED on reviewing and upgrading laws yearly.
