Are you being scammed by Jamaican ‘court’ bailiff?

This article is not intended to categorise all bailiffs, but to shed light on certain unjust actions by specific bailiffs who will remain nameless in this article.

In the past few years the team has visited several courts, one thing is sure. No matter how many complaints are being made by unprofessional representatives of the Court, system things only seem to get worse.

A visitor from the US went as far as saying that every time he visits a black country he can predict what will happen, so he just doesn’t bother being alarmed anymore. ‘Black’ people always seem to be their own biggest abusers, no customer service, no sensitivity. Whats worse is the same person who abuses you turn around and curses or embarrasses you for seeking your right, and justification.
Is it a matter of being professional or is it just that members of the public are being scammed.

Avoid being scammed

Taking a few pages from his book, the lessons he’s left is that the best way is to arm yourself when dealing with such persons rather than getting frustrated and blowing your lid. So here are a few scenarios with suggestions to cope:

1. PRICEY AND INCONSISTENT BAILIFF FEES
SCENARIO: Here is where the Bailiff strategically sets their price for commercial properties. They tell you there is a tariff but you neither see it as it relates to commercial properties or can they give you a sound explanation. Even burdensome is the inconsistencies. One bailiff charges 10,000 and another 50,000 for the same distance, same zone, same sized area up for clearance by the so appointed court bailiff who has the only authority to carry out the eviction. So in other words on two separate occasions in the same time period two separate an d vastly different fees are charged for similar actions.
Dare one add that on the second occasion the bailiff claimed he was charging extra for policemen, when in reality only one puny policeman was contracted for escort.
SUGGESTION: Get a detailed receipt for the money. Go to the Minister of Justice and request a tariff and a guide to understanding fee structure. Nothing is supposed to be deregulated, nor a fee from the top off any-one’s head.

2. NO SERVICE
SCENARIO:
