How corruption in Jamaica’s legal system changed Anthea McGibbon

Anyone who knows Anthea McGibbon can tell you that studying law or even being involved in any aspect of law was not an attraction because she hated reading.
However falling victim to the system back in 2011 (Ambrose Burke vs Anthea McGibbon) plunged her on a path to commit to assisting others to avoid another case of legal attack and play with someone’s life. The effects still linger as at times persons who are not legally educated in true Jamaican style pick out and spread negative points even knowing they are wrong.
Another thing that happened was that an attorney who failed to pay Anthea McGibbon for my hard work filling art jobs, instead paid for her paralegal studies. Now she lives in both worlds and excels equally in them.

During the court case of

    Ambrose Burke vs Anthea McGibbon

, from Parish Court to Supreme Court, there are several fallacies, loopholes, acts of corruption. Main factual points were overlooked, and legal principles abandoned. The main one being “On the day of the appeal, the attorney whom I relied on did not show up as he got contracted by sudden imposed DUDUS in the international saga”. “Of course I was not prepared to present my case, but little did I know then that I could have asked for another date, as I absolutely know now.” The three ruling Judges of Court of Appeal had a field day only to show that they were Judges.

“I learnt later from discussions with attornies and from my own legal studies and research that this entire case was a perfect example of BAD LAW being practiced through the courts by Judge and Lawyer. I had no money to take it to the Court of Appeal. Many loopholes caused my case to fall through, but it was never for lack of truth. I also learnt how one can loose time.” All is not lost as this travel through the court system opened the eyes of Anthea McGibbon. Some day she will do an interview and discuss this case in detail. Any reader can then do their own investigation, especially for Jamaica’s sake. This is my reason JLP has lost my support. Someone who once was a Judge could not make good judgements on lies being told, never asked for proof of statements made. Her interest in a political career and rising through the system then was her focus.

On the other hand the Court of Appeal judges told me then that they could not correct the mistakes of a poor choice in lawyer who was actually a JLP advocate and to date vies for a space in parliament. Poor Jamaica.

VALUABLE LESSONS from a CORRUPT LEGAL SYSTEM

Through this case Anthea McGibbon learned and is now obsessed to ensure others learn for their legal sake and protection and success:-
Judges are humans too, but there are those who play with their role as judges for sake of honouring friendship
– At no time rely solely on any lawyer to present your case especially in Jamaica
– All litigants must ensure their evidence is intact for themselves
– If your instincts tell you something is wrong, believe and act
– Be bold, muster the strength to get your point in , the moment you see something going off
– No one in Court, not even the lawyer who takes your money
– Stay on channel till the gavel goes down, and if youre not satisfied DO NOT SIGN
– Your signature is so important, it seals everything so if you do not agree, exercise your constitutional right to appeal
– Never take it for granted a Judge is on your side even when they see the raw facts staring at them
– Sympathy has no place in the court
– Being credible is not about truth, but what you can establish and prove in court
– Having a bad lawyer makes your best case into a lingering nightmare
– In court, you only have God, you only have yourself even with the best lawyer and most educated Judge standing beside you
– Thankfully, Court of Appeal nor Parish Court sets precedence for lower courts
– Even at the lowest level , prepare to prove your case beyond 90 degrees
– etc

All the best. Link Anthea McGibbon for the best in research, case preparation and management. Nothing beats learning from experience and experience that sharpens you to help others.
