Initiated in 1966, the Jamaica Festival Song Contest which was renamed in later years as the National Popular Contest is one main feature all Jamaicans look forward to every year at this time.
HINT: If you cant ‘rock the nation’ with singing, jigging, dancing and prancing across the stage, you definitely wont win. Another hint to remember, really remember despite the strong influence of dancehall, Jamaicans really dig the grounded cultural flavour which unites everybody – the tropical culture sounds – thanks to winners like The Maytals, Roy Rayon, Astraunauts, Tinga Stewart.
