Reggae producer 'Flava' McGregor, Ammoye in new lovers rock

TORONTO, ON: Chart-topping reggae producer Kemar “Flava” McGregor has a new protégé – a Canadian female vocalist named Ammoye, who release a new single, titled “Radio,” January 18, 2012 on iTunes.

Her upcoming single, a sensual, quiet-storm reggae serenade, was featured on McGregor’s highly-anticipated “Club Dance Riddim” album, which was released january 10, 2012.

Ammoye, who was crowned Canada Female Artist of the Year at the Achievement Awards in Reggae Music last summer, said her new single represents the first of a forthcoming collection of romantic reggae compositions to be produced by McGregor, exemplifying her attraction to all things pertaining to love.

“I represent love,” said Ammoye. “I’m always promoting love – whether it’s romantic love, love for family, friends, life, or just being – the theme of love is always going to come out in my songs in some way, shape or form.”

Her musical resumé already includes background-vocal performances with jazz luminaryMichael Bublé, and an all-star listing of Canadian pop singers, including Kreesha Turner, Anjulie, Corylee, Divine Brown and Keshia Chante.

In 2009, two of her songs were featured on the MTV Winter Olympics documentary, “Over The Bolts,” and she has performed as an opening stage act for hip-hop celebrityB.O.B., along with reggae greats such as Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Serani, Gyptian, Gramps Morgan, Chaka Demus, L.U.S.T., and the Easy-Star All Stars.

McGregor first heard Ammoye singing background vocals for Canadian reggae artist Tony Anthony during summer 2011, and was impressed by the mainstream-celebrity potential of her flowery vocal tone.

“As a producer who knows talent, when I first heard her voice, it just made me want to work with her,” said McGregor. “When I heard Ammoye’s voice, I was like, ‘Who is that?’ I was very excited to work with her. I was thinking about commercial music, and doing some commercial records with her. The way Ammoye sounds, and the way she sings lyrics, she’s definitely the kind of person who can cross over. She’s the kind of singer that people around the world would want to listen to.”
