Making a difference and with previous success from a gamble on Soho in 1975 and later success with South Beach in 1985, urban visionary Tony Goldman is once again transforming another ugly site into a trendy spot.
In downtown Miami, a downtrodden warehouse district called Wynwood, which two decades ago was a place for shootouts, is now a hip area, night and day, thanks to the developer. Within the neighbourhood of Wynwood, an old industrial area west of Biscayne Bay downtown, Goldman has bought nearly 24 buildings for 35 million dollars since 2004.
Goldman’s strategy includes making the area appealing for artists. He pays for housing for artists, who have made several large-scale murals in the neighbourhood.
Allan T Shulman, architecture professor at the University of Miami commends the efforts in an interview with Kerry Sanders.

Shulman identifies one positive as being “its building its renaissance on a base of artists and galleries”.
It’s about using what we already have says Goldman who has also invested 20 million dollars. Plus we are reminded that to “live a creative life, you have to loose your fear of being wrong.”
