EX-BRITISH PM TONY BLAIR HELPING TO INSPIRE MILLIONS OF CHRISTIANS TO SPEAK UP FOR THE WORLD’S POOR
London, UK:
EX-BRITISH Prime Minister Tony Blair has been interviewed as part of a new project to inspire millions of Christians to speak up for the world’s poorest people.
In a new series of videos ‘The Jesus Agenda’ Mr Blair argues that Christians should be advocating on behalf of the world’s poorest people and getting involved in action.
In an interview with Joel Edwards, the International Director of Micah Challenge, Mr Blair said: “If our faith means anything to us. If we can see the inspiration of Christ in any real way, then how can we remain passive in what still remains a situation where hundreds of thousands of people, in fact millions of people die needlessly…
“We have to be out there helping… not just by bringing relief, but by changing the systems of governance that promote things like corruption.”
The course offers a biblical framework for advocacy through exploring Jesus’ own mission statement and hints at the audacious nature of the Church’s task regarding poverty and injustice.
Joel Edwards said: “If it is true that 1 in 3 people in the world are Christians then imagine what would happen if all of us who claim to follow Christ became passionate advocates of the Jesus agenda.
“God cares about the 950 million people going hungry every day and the 19 million under 5s who are at imminent risk of death from hunger.
“We are encouraged that Tony Blair and dozens of other world figures are on the same page on issues of justice for the poor.
“Our hope is that the newly elected American President will be even more conscious of the global poor in his second term.”
Micah Challenge, Christian Aid and Compassion are currently releasing the 9-week ‘The Jesus Agenda’ course to Christians across the world.
The Jesus Agenda is part of Micah Challenge’s wider plan to mobilise Christians to remind world politicians to keep their Millennium Development Goal promises made in 2000 to halve extreme poverty.
