Welcome 2022 with transformation urges Anthea McGibbon

Resolutions are out the door!! 2022 should be welcomed with a realistic spirit of transformation.

These past 2 years have meant a whole lot to me,birthing in me a renewed spirit of transformation.

I hold the belief that I WAS among the first Covid 19 victims. I had all the symptoms between the latter part of November to the first week in December 2019. It was the first time I had a stomach to lungs roll and tightening of my throat just to breathe. With medication from the doctor who to date still could not determine my condition, plus a few good homey items I recovered to the point where I have not had neither flu nor a sinus attack since. Thats miraculous for me!

So now as 2022 turns on a new axis, Ilet’s welcome it with total transformation.

Since my recovery in 2019, I literally felt as though I was given a new life – a clean slate. Shortly after that an entire series of challenges began – perhaps my biggest yet – mentally, spiritually and emotionally. My reputation, my faith and several aCTIONS OF GOODWILL were literally attacked and wronfully misrepresented. I know I was not alone.

So meditate with me, if you will – this whole covid saga has put a spin on even the life considered most insignificant. Since 2020 in March the world has been put in fear, and then fear of that fear. Many have not displayed a spirit of control nor wisdom, but will agree on a shared ambition for success regardless and in spite of those experiences if not for us but our children.

Since then I have understood things differently.

Remnants of slavery

For the most part, a lot of the actions of Jamaicans have been due to what I call ‘remnants of slavery and a colonial system’. The countless imbalanced laws we are governed by for example the laws on motherhood. A woman can have so may children and be negligent and callous. Yet, it would appear she has more rights than the woman who actually keeps them alive, heathly and developed enough to achieve their own independence and ambitions. This imbalance is mirrored in other aspects of Jamaica life, as Jamaica is largely raised by women.

There is imbalance in how the basic level taxi driver is penalised for catering to the many who chose a route taxi over the government provided bus who failed miserably. Our students fall victim to teachers who play monopoly when they can no longer earn a physical dollar since the world moved to an online platform, and parents have no means to earn much more to bank transfer funds.
The list goes on….

HOPE

BUT hope is not lost. A spirit of transformation is a good start to existing in the new normal, as a fourth wave of Covid looms. In every aspect of our lives we must approach with determination and confidence regardless and in spite of what we face.

Creative intelligence is key here onward and this can only come about when we transform our thinking and focus points. Lets move from focusin on getting equal with those who wronged us, proving points to the abusers, but instead transform to be exemplary in what we do.

After all if we become determined to succeed, our basic understanding will improve andour skills will increase when we utilise the little we have.

Lets transform to invest in ourselves and invest in a better Jamaica with the little we have as every lickle mek a muckle.
