I need my name on Jamaica land title before mortgage is paid up

QUESTION: Dear Legal Wiz,

Hello. I have a question that I was wondering you can help me with. My husband bought a piece of land in Jamaica. I was not able to make the trip at the time of purchase which means my name was not added to the title. My question is what needs to take place to add my name to the title. And is it difficult to do.

My other question which may seem a little silly, is that was I somehow able to add my name to the title at the time of transaction even though I was not physically there? Also the mortgage company that is assisting us with the loan for the property is stating that my name is not able to be added to the title until the loan is fully paid. Is that always the case?

Thanks for writing in.
No name will be on any title before mortgage is fully paid up in most circumstances. Directions as to whose name is to go on the title is the responsibility of the purchaser. There are other channels to add a name afterwards.
