Tell me how to transfer a title from my dead aunt to me

QUESTION: Dear Legal Wiz,
My aunt died. She willed her land in Jamaica to me. Please tell me how I can get my name on the title. Do I need a TRN?

RESPONSE: Dear Sheryll

You need to download the application form from the website www.nla.gov.jm of the National Land Agency(Titles Division). You will not need a Tax Registration Number (TRN), but you will need the valuation number for online transfer applications. Fill in the form and apply. Bear in mind that you will need to have the will probated through the Courts. You are going to need the executor.
Your costs will be
stamp duty (pay at Taxpayer Audit And Assessment Dept (TAAD))
transfer tax (pay at Taxpayer Audit And Assessment Dept (TAAD))

To have someone do it on your behalf, you will need to send them
a notarised copy of your government-issued id
letter of authorisation, also notarised
copy of land title/deed

Call 876-750-5263/876-946-5263 | National Land Agency (Titles Division), 93 Hanover Street, Kingston

I’m really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays..
