Jamaican Art at the World Trade Fair, China

Jamaican Artists will be participating in the World Expo in Shanghai, China for six months beginning in May 2010.


Jamaica Trade and Invest (JTI) will be participating in the World Expo in Shanghai, China for six months beginning in May 2010. In support of this JTI will be hosting an information session for the Visual Artists on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 10:00 am in the JTI training room to explore the opportunities within this mission.

Background

Shanghai 2010 as it is dubbed, will be staged over 184 days from May 1 to October 31 under the Expo theme, “Better City, Better Life.” Building on Expo Zaragoza ( major expo held in Spain June – September 2008), the organizers of Shanghai 2010 are anticipating approximately 70 million visitors, 200 participants, over 25 sponsors and partners and an active involvement by the general public brought together to provide a comprehensive schedule of educational, cultural and entertaining events.

The Caribbean Community has been provided with a joint pavilion.The Jamaica booth in the pavilion, will have three principal elements, namely:
