Can the valuation number to pay property taxes in Jamaica be wrong?

QUESTION: Dear Legal Wiz,

I sent monies to pay for my property taxes and it turned out someone I dont know paid it all. We went online to check the property as the Titles office claim they can’t find the title based on the valuation number we gave them What do we do?

RESPONSE: Dear Clara McCarthy,
Ask someone to visit the Tax office and retrieve the history of all who paid on the valuation number you possess. You can check online on iMap Jamaica using the valuation number you have to get information on your property. If you are unsuccessful, you can also get someone to visit the Ardenne Road branch of the National Land Agency to get information on the valuation of your property and any other information you have. Our team can assist you for a nominal fee.
