DEAR EDITOR,
In reply to the article ‘One stop, preacher!’, published in The Jamaica Gleaner on Tuesday, November 13, 2012:
I believe that as Christians, it is our God-given mandate to spread the gospel. Some believe the best way to evangelise is to do so on buses.
It is true that many have disturbed the peace of the people on the bus, and some passengers are uninterested in the gospel. I believe that this is because of the approach of some persons who have sought to preach the gospel. Therefore, the applause greeting the bus ban is understandable.
However, with a different approach, i.e., asking permission of passengers, being polite and delivering the word briefly, the disturbance of the passengers would decrease tremendously.
But the same rules should be applied to lewd/derogatory music played by other passengers in the bus. This, too, is disturbing not only to Christians but to other passengers in the bus. We do not want to hear non-gospel songs being aired, even on the bus radio. JUST IS JUST. NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT.
Righteousness exalts a nation.
