QUESTION: Hi Anthea!
There is an ackee tree where I live. It has plenty of ackee growing on it, however……….there were two that had fallen to the ground. I know one should never pick or consume an opened ackee but my question is, can’t I still plant the seeds inside or would they be considered poisonous also? I don’t want to kill myself before my time! :o/ Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Best regards
KK
RESPONSE: Dear KK
Technically, unfit ackees contain unfit seeds, hence they naturally would not grow. They are not poisonous unless consumed, but if you choose to grow them and they do grow, it would be a miracle and you can invite the media to do a story. Please note though that if you wait until those unopened ackees open by themselves, you can both eat the ackee fruit inside as well as plant the seeds to grow.
