BEAUTY PAGEANT TRUTH: I am not outraged that the beautiful Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell DID NOT WIN. It does not minimise my pride for her however. I am proud because she is Jamaican – whether black, yellow, pink, black or orange.
Recently, as a result of the uproar over the placement of Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell in the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, four intelligent women sat on Television Jamaica to discuss this whole game of browning and whitening over blackening that ‘the we’ need to change.
I dont agree that Kaci should have won. I do believe Miss Colombia Paulina Vega was most poised, dignified and expressive as the ‘spokesperson who happens to be pretty that was being sought’.
I note also that she is not white and without English as her first language.
CHANGING OUTLOOK ON NEGROES?
We dont change it by forcing or intimidating negroes from processing their hair.. which some do just for style and to frankly speaking make life easier.. after all why was there no point made about the number of ‘whities’ that process their hair or Asians and Spanish FOR THAT MATTER.. Kudos again to Patrick Barrett and his Rebel Salute.. His idea of celebrating Jamaica at least for now is that we all get busy realising our potential and inner strengths regardless of the colour of any part of us..
BLACK SUPREMACY..
GET REAL JAMAICANS stop this nag about African this and that as meaning that we should have black supremacy.. Now our Miss Jamaica for example is just a pretty face where her intelligence can only be applied at home.. BE honest her questions were simple for any Jamaican and Kaci flopped.. whats more she added… “I am lucky to be in the top 5 out of 88”. Has any of the ones staging an uproar even considered on the year Miss Trinidad and Tobago Wendy Fitzwilliam (1998), showed how to be an African descent true beauty and won. Come now be real.. is Kaci representing the intelligence and beauty of Jamaica or are we just hustling another beauty …..
The Pageant’s Judges said they needed a spokeswoman who happens to be pretty not someone who is pretty who happens to know English.. If our ‘blackest’ beauty went and spoke patois with poise and dignity.. I am sure with a translator she would win.. Oo and make sure she doesnt kimbo’ onstage standing in the last top 5.
Jamaican Kaci Fennell seemed just a tad unprepared, being just a tad simple and not overworked with responses to convince of being a dignified spokesperson quick on her feet passionate about her country and missions, and who happens to be a pretty face, much more to represent the galaxy.
