The Student play by Paul Beale. Shanique Dawes photo
In a climate of repeated cases of convictions for molestation, The Student is a smart way of placing Jamaicans in the classroom to study the craftiness of teenagers, in taking sexual advantage of adults.
A teenager, on discovering her pregnancy forces her teacher into intimacy with her to cover up the real culprit who is her father.
The puzzle fits together in the ending scenes when the mother who had been in denial throughout the entire play is confronted with the unadulterated truth in the presence of both the teacher and father.
The play offers much entertainment as real life experiences are stitched together as ancedotes. A rastafarian teacher defiles himself when he yields to temptation, and lets down his guard eats pork. This is one of the better scenes.
