Exciting things have happened in the legal world in the past two years. One major event being the renaming of the lower courts and those who rule in such space.
All resident magistrate courts are now known as Parish Courts, and all resident magistrates are now referred to as Parish Judges. How legally cool is that.
Additionally more locations have been added to serve the general public.
Here’s a quick snapshot of Courthouses and their information in brief updated in 2016. Keep connected as we keep updating this to better inform you.
The 14 parishes of Jamaica are further grouped into three (3) counties. The Courthouses are therefore categorised by the county where its found. The Supreme Court rulings are the same level on the tier of Courthouses in Jamaica, except that it is the court which facilitates claims over One Million Jamaican Dollars. Commonly referred to as the High Court, it also houses the Circuit Court and is the place where most if not all divorces relating to Jamaican marriages are effected.
The list below lists the Courthouses and their locations based on their counties. You may also access the contact information.
