The Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy, Kingston announces the 2013-2015 Fulbright Faculty Development Program.
The Fulbright Faculty Development Program awards scholarships to lecturers at tertiary level institutions in Jamaica. Qualified applicants should have demonstrated excellent academic performance with first-class honors or upper-second class honors achieved for his/her Bachelor’s degree. Applicants are required to be Jamaican citizens currently residing in Jamaica. Importantly, the applicant should have a commitment to university lecturing and be supported by nomination for the program by the applicant’s tertiary institution. All fields of study are included, with the exception of medicine, nursing, and dentistry. Persons with “green cards” (alien registration cards), or are resident in the United States, or have previously received a Fulbright Grant are not eligible to apply for these awards. Recipients should plan to return to Jamaica on completion of their studies in the U.S. and contribute to the institutional strengthening and knowledge base of local tertiary institutions.
Airline travel to and from the united States; tuition assistance, in the form of a scholarship or assistantship, provided by the host university, with the exception of business, law, architecture the arts, graphic design, and public policy, where grantees are expected to contribute towards the cost of tuition. Grantees who wish to pursue degree programs in these fields should be prepared to cover at least 50% of their tuition costs using personal funds or other resources. Grantees will also be provided with a monthly stipend, monthly book allowance and health insurance.
Applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) dependent on field of study. Please use the online Fulbright Faculty Development Program application is available here. The applicant should create an account and electronically submit the application by June 1, 2012. Applicants need to electronically upload and submit as a part of the online application transcripts, Conditions of the Fulbright Grant, Academic Placement Suggestions and the Institution Verification forms available online. Along with this application, two letters of recommendation need to be provided electronically (as instructed) or in hardcopy. Please note that electronic letter submission is convenient and this process allows only program administrators to view such letters. The recommendation letter should be confidential and if submitted as a hardcopy, address the letter to the Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy, Kingston, 142 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6. Interviews for short-listed candidates will take place in the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section in August/September 2012 and such interviews will be confirmed by email.
