Judge Joe Brown and Jamaican writer Anthea McGibbon

Earlier this year Judge Joe Brown was banned from practising law. Production company Celebritunity says Brown is suffering from complications from type II diabetes “and the effects of prescribed medication for the condition combined with hypertension and stress.” Therefore has been forced to put down his gavel and exit the courtroom by order of State Supreme Court of Tennessee, however temporary.

Brown has reportedly been placed on disability inactive status, which designates that a lawyer is temporarily disabled and incapacitated from practicing law. His condition has led to a loud outburst in Juvenile Court in March 2014, which some witnesses pegged as Brown’s passionate appeal on behalf of some victims.

Still every now and again I look at this photo. Meeting Judge Joe Brown meant a whole lot to me. Jamaica as a country as accomplished much. On the other hand life can be challenging especially for those who catch a vision that it seems hardly anyone else fully grasps.

Then persons like Judge Joe Brown walk into your life, and makes it all come together.
Law and Art – how they go hand in hand is what his speech was about in 2008. He was being hosted as guest speaker at the Edna Manley college of the Visual and Performing Arts.

On Monday, December 1, 2008 a fundraising banquet was held by the Edna Manley College (EMC) Development Fund at the Hilton Kingston hotel, New Kingston. At that time the Judge elaborated on how the college is geared to being a leader in the 21st century.

Locally, there are great businesspersons who get the connection. Wayne Chen, Paul Issa to name a very selected few.
