Far and wide, there is ‘No greater love’

All across the world, there are just some songs which pierce the very core of its listeners. Jamaicans are known to have belted a few songs, especially those good old traditional ones of the “ole time religion”.

Here’s one that many Jamaicans love. It based on John 3:16, John 15:12-13. This version is by the GMWA National Mass Choir.

NO GREATER LOVE
(based on John 3:16, John 15:12-13)

Verse:
For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only Son.
The Son gave His life for me,
when He died on Calvary.

There is no greater love,
nowhere, you won’t find it
than a man would lay down His life for a friend,
there’s no greater love, no greater love
than a man would lay down his life for a friend

Chorus 1:
There is no greater love,
there is no greater love,
(there is no greater love)
(no greater love)

Bridge:
No greater love,
no greater love
no greater love
no greater love
(than a man would)
(He would lay down His life for a friend.)
for a friend
for a friend

No greater love,
no greater love,
no greater love,
no greater love.

Vamp 1:
Jesus went to Calvary
to save a wretch,
like you and me;
that’s love, that’s love.
(repeat as directed)

Vamp 2:
They hung Him high,
they stretched Him wide.
He hung His head, for me He died;
that’s love, that’s love.
(repeat as directed)

Vamp 3:
That’s not how the story ends,
three days later He rose again;
that’s love, that’s love.
