EDITORIAL: Planting the ‘IMPOORATION’ seed

Dutty gal gone up.. whe me a go nyam?
[Transalation, even the prices for cheap items for nutrition have increased, so what am I, as a Jamaican going to eat now? ‘Dutty Gal is Jamaican slang for ‘salt macarel’]

Unbalanced pigs feeding at the trough of dreams, sliding on their hindquarters on banana skin laced with bacon laced right into the grinding machine of taxation!
We [Jamaica] need $21 billion dollars in taxes fi get a US$1.2 billion loan from the IMF.. what a piece a cratches!

I say tax baby formula hard

Anthea….your opening column has the Jamaican problem of consumerism down pat…nice blistering article…reminiscent of that youtube piece on the Hermitage dam and Jamaica’s water woes…have you seen it yet?….would you like me to send it otherwise?…
I am in the UK for another month…all flights stopped yesterday and today due to volcano ash…sounds like an April fool joke…but makes us realise that when mother earth roars we are but ants on the surface, nice cars and all….
I am trying to grow as much salad and other produce as I can on the extremely steep piece of hillside I occupy up in the blue mountains where I have my studio, involves a lot of terracing butthere is nothing better than reaping your own food fresh from the garden. Allotments are regaining popularity here in the UK and if more people could plant a piece of ground in the city the youth could be kept busy and the resulting spin off of food to eat and barter
with or sell would make everybody healthier and happier…..good luck with the journalism, keep telling it like it is…talk to you soon
