Jamaica artist Dwayne Hamilton of St Ann eyes art college

Dwayne Hamilton has had many experiences in his short life span, and sets out to tell his tale through his art. Hailing from St Ann, he mostly uses pencils, lead and coloured.

He is more of a conceptualiser, and hardly ever attempts to represent scenes as it really is. He is more for telling tales and commentary on experiences he has been through. Very often in his work, largely black and white, there are trickles of blood and barbed wire. His heart has been broken, not nec essarily from love, but the vivid images tell tales of hardships he has witnessed and experienced.
The images are sharp and convincing, sometimes too much, and causes a few onlookers to turn away a bit too quickly.

On the other hand he indulges many with his fantasy images such as ‘Queen Serene, done in blue. This is a woman stopping to admire water flowing under the moonlight. She wears white.

So far, Dwayne like other students from rural schools recognise his talent and wants to go further. He is however faced with the challenge of not having enough subjects, nor does he have the financial stability to attend.
This has not deterred him. He is currently working while studying Maths and English needed for entry at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.
